Understanding the Marshalls Credit Card

What is the Marshalls Credit Card?

The Marshalls Credit Card is a retail credit card that is issued through Synchrony Bank. This card is specifically designed for Marshalls customers, and it allows you to earn rewards points for every dollar you spend at Marshalls. (or at their sister store TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Sierra, and Home Sense). The rewards program is competitive with other retail cards and ensures you get the most bang for your buck with all your purchases.

It’s critical to understand that there are two versions of this card, with slightly different names:

  • The TJX Rewards Platinum MasterCard
  • The TJX Rewards Credit Card

While the Platinum MasterCard version functions like a normal credit card and can be used at stores outside of the TJX system, the “regular” other version is a credit card that can only be used at TJX stores.

Benefits of the Marshalls Credit Card

With the Marshalls Credit Card, you can earn 5% back in rewards points for every dollar that you spend at any of the TJX retail stores, including Marshalls, HomeGoods, and TJ Maxx. This means that for every $100 you spend, you’ll receive $5 back in rewards points that you can use towards future purchases.

Rewards will come in the form of gift certificates, which can only be used at TJX stores. The certificates are issued in increments of $10. You earn 5 points for every $1 spent and rewards certificates are only issued once you have at least 1,000 points. Therefore, you’ll need to spend $200 before you get any rewards back. Rewards certificates expire after 2 years, but they are available on your phone through the app.

Additionally, you can receive special offers and exclusive benefits as a cardholder. These rewards and benefits can include early access to sales and discounts, free shipping, and extended returns.

The rewards program is designed to be easy to use and understand. You can track your rewards points online or through the Marshalls app, and you can redeem them for discounts on future purchases.

How to Apply for the Marshalls Credit Card

Applying for the Marshalls Credit Card is easy, and you can do it both online and in-store. The online application process usually takes only a few minutes, and most people will receive a response within minutes of submitting your application (although this is not strictly guaranteed, some applications will be looked at more closely and will take longer to receive a response).

While Marshalls doesn’t publish a minimum credit score requirement, most store credit cards want to see at least a 650. If you don’t meet this requirement, you may want to work on improving your credit score before applying for the card.

Once you’ve been approved for the card, you’ll receive your new card in the mail within a few days. You can start using your card immediately to earn rewards points and take advantage of exclusive benefits.

However, managing your credit card account is equally important to ensure that you do not fall behind on your payments and incur any late fees or interest charges. Here are some tips to help you manage your Marshalls Credit Card account effectively:

Online Account Management

You can monitor your account balance and transactions online by logging into your account on the Synchrony Bank website. Online account management allows you to view your account activity, check your balance, and make payments from the comfort of your home or office.

Another benefit of online account management is that it allows you to set up customized alerts and notifications. You can choose to receive email or text notifications when your payment is due, when a payment has been received, or when your balance reaches a certain threshold.

Mobile App Features

Marshalls Credit Card Fees and Interest Rates

Store Credit cards tend to have very high interest rates, so it’s important to understand the fees and interest rates associated with the card.

Annual Percentage Rate (APR)

The Marshalls Credit Card has a sky-high variable APR of 31.49%!. This rate is higher than many other retail cards but is not uncommon for a card of this type. It’s essential to pay your balance in full each month to avoid any interest charges. If you carry a balance on your card, the interest charges can quickly add up and make it difficult to pay off your debt.

It’s important to note that the APR can vary depending on your creditworthiness. If you have a good credit score, you may be able to qualify for a lower APR. However, if your credit score is lower, you may be subject to a higher APR.

Cash Advance Fees

Cash advance fees are $10 or 4% of the transaction amount, whichever is greater. This fee applies when you use your credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM or bank. It’s important to avoid cash advances whenever possible, as they can be very expensive and can quickly add up. Note that this is only available on the Platinum Mastercard version of this card, not on the regular TJX Rewards Credit Card version.

Foreign Transaction Fees

There is no foreign transaction fee, however, foreign transaction amounts will be converted to USD at a rate that Mastercard determines. Similar to cash advances, this is only available on the Platinum Mastercard version of this card.

This can add up to significant savings over time, especially if you are a frequent Target shopper. The REDcard also comes with free shipping and extended returns, which can be very convenient. The immediate discount, instead of having to use rewards certificated is an advantage the Target REDcard has over this one.

Marshalls Credit Card vs. Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card

The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is a credit card that offers rewards points for purchases made on Amazon and Whole Foods Market. If you are a frequent Amazon shopper, this card can be a great way to earn 5% back rewards on your purchases.
